Professor Derek O. Northwood is currently Distinguished University Professor, Professor of Engineering Materials, Department of Mechanical, Automotive and Materials Engineering, University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (P. Eng.) and holds Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) registration in Australia (1990). He has 40+ years of experience in academia. Current corrosion-related research includes: protective coatings for light metal alloys (Mg, Al, Ti), surface engineering of steel and cast iron for automotive applications, and surface patterning for improved corrosion resistance. In November 2016, Professor Northwood was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC).
